New President Search Reaches Final Stage at University of Montana
Missoula, MT, USA,Sat Apr 04 2026
The search for the next president of the University of Montana has narrowed down to one finalist, Jeremiah Shinn. He currently serves as interim president at Boise State University and will visit Missoula on April 6 and 7.
During his trip, Shinn is set to meet with faculty, staff, students, and community members. An open forum will be held on the third floor of the University Center at 3:30 p. m. , followed by a reception at 5:00 p. m.
The commissioner of higher education, Clayton Christian, praised the depth of applicants and urged everyone to attend. He noted that the process was fast‑tracked after President Seth Bodnar stepped down earlier this year to pursue public service and a Senate run.
Shinn emerged as the top candidate from over 60 applicants, thanks to an expedited search by the commissioner’s office. His meetings will include the university’s leadership team, faculty groups, staff organizations, and the Associated Students of UM.
The campus community is encouraged to engage with Shinn during his visit, giving them a chance to discuss priorities and vision for the university’s future.
