New Season of Top‑Rated Crime Drama Returns to Netflix
DenmarkSat May 09 2026
A crime series that once held a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes has re‑appeared after a five‑year break. The Danish show, originally called “The Chestnut Man, ” was adapted from a novel by Søren Sveistrup, who also wrote “The Killing. ” Fans of the first season now have a fresh chapter: “The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek, ” which dropped on March 26.
Although the latest episode count is still too small for a full Rotten Tomatoes rating, early reviews are glowing. RogerEbert. com gave it a thumbs‑up, Heaven of Horror rated it five stars, and Screenrant praised it with a nine out of ten. With more critics weighing in, the series could once again hit 100 %.
The plot follows detectives Naia Thulin and Mark Hess as they investigate a woman stalked by anonymous texts that echo an old rhyme. Their search leads them to a cold case from thirty years ago, and a killer is now on the loose.
Other foreign crime shows with perfect Rotten Tomatoes scores include Germany’s “Dear Child” and Spain’s “The Innocent” and “The Snow Girl. ” Yet only a few, like the British “Broadchurch, ” have continued for multiple seasons. The Chestnut Man’s second season is short, with six episodes—just like the first—making it easy to jump straight into the new story.
Netflix’s promotion of this series has been modest, so it remains to be seen whether the show will climb the streaming charts. If you missed the original five years ago, start there and then move on to “Hide and Seek. ”
