A new soccer stadium is coming to the Mystic River in Everett. The Kraft Group, who own the New England Revolution, have made deals with Boston and Everett. These deals are about money and improvements for the area.
Boston will get almost $48 million over 15 years. This money is for better roads and other infrastructure near Charlestown. The city will also earn money from ticket sales. For every soccer ticket sold, Boston gets $1. For concerts, they get 1. 5% of ticket sales. That's about $2 million a year.
The Kraft Group will also spend $13 million to improve Sullivan Square in Charlestown. This should help with traffic and make it easier to get to the stadium.
Everett has a similar deal. They will get more than $90 million over 20 years. Like Boston, Everett will also get money from ticket sales. Both cities will get more money each year because of inflation.
The Kraft Group says this project will turn a neglected area into a vibrant waterfront destination. But not everyone is happy. Some people worry about the environment and traffic.
Brad Campbell, CEO of the Conservation Law Foundation, says the infrastructure needs around Sullivan Square are huge. He wants to make sure the benefits don't cause more problems. He is concerned about air quality and traffic for local residents and commuters.
