In a big step forward for Pasifika storytellers, five talented individuals have been picked for the 2026 PEAK Producer and Executive Fellowship. This program, backed by The Asian American Foundation (TAAF), is all about giving Pasifika creators the tools they need to shine in Hollywood.
The fellowship is a big deal because it connects these creators with top industry professionals. They get to work on their communication, networking, leadership, and project development skills. This is especially important because it helps independent and freelance producers understand the studio system better.
Averie Joy Maikalima O Makua Huffine started this program. She’s the interim executive director of PEAK and a producer at Humble Sandwich Productions. What makes this program unique is that it’s the first of its kind in Hollywood, created by a Pasifika producer.
Norman Chen, the CEO of TAAF, said that supporting these creators is crucial. It’s about giving voice to their stories and making them feel like they belong. Dana Ledoux Miller, the PEAK board chair and director of “Moana 2, ” is also excited. She mentioned that the program received a lot of applications, showing how much the community needs opportunities like this.
This year, the fellowship saw a 150% increase in applications, which shows how much PEAK has grown. TAAF is committed to changing the narrative, and this fellowship is part of that effort.
Later this year, PEAK will expand its initiatives. This includes the third year of the PEAK Writers Fellowship, PEAK Reads, PEAK Catch-Ups, community screenings, and new industry partnerships.
The fellows include Celia Kaleialoha Kenney, a producer from Honolulu who works on independent films. Lowen “Kainoa” Rudolfo is a Native Hawaiian filmmaker known for his documentary “Ancestral Ink. ” Donato Fatuesi is a producer who focuses on Queer and Trans Pacific Islander voices. Kayla Caldeira is a filmmaker and photographer who tells stories that challenge beliefs and highlight humanity. Anette Arinix Amazing Aga is also part of this talented group.
