Nintendo has recently addressed the flurry of Switch 2 mockups and photos that have been making the rounds online. The Japanese company clarified that the gaming hardware shown by accessories maker Genki at the CES 2025 event in Las Vegas is not official. They stated that Genki did not receive this hardware from them.
Genki had also shared a video of a Switch 2 render, which follows several leaked images of the upcoming console. Nintendo confirmed to a Japanese publication that these images and videos are not official. Genki's mockup seemed credible, as it was based on a real Switch 2 system the company had allegedly seen. However, Nintendo has not yet officially unveiled the system, and all the rumors could still be disproved.
The Switch 2 is rumored to have advanced features like Joy-Cons that could act as a mouse. Moreover, retail listings suggest the console will support modern MicroSD Express cards. An anonymous GameStop employee found a bunch of Switch 2-related entries on their system, including 256GB and 512GB MicroSD cards.
More leaks surfaced, showcasing the Switch 2's internals and Joy-Cons. The new Joy-Cons are said to be larger and use electromagnetic suction instead of rails. Previous unverified images showed a Switch-like device with a bigger screen and magnetic Joy-Cons, along with a USB-C port on both sides. These leaks mention 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage for the Switch 2.
Nintendo plans to make the Switch 2 backward-compatible with original Switch games and include Nintendo Switch Online. They’ve also set a reveal date for before the end of March 2025. The console is expected to hit shelves sometime after April 2025, with hopes of preventing scalping.
