Northville Lab Closure: Michigan Police Move Science to New Facilities
Northville Township, MI, USAThu Jun 18 2026
"Michigan State Police have decided to shut down the Northville forensic laboratory and shift its work to other state labs. The choice comes after experts checked the old building, which was built in 1976 and now needs more than $20 million for repairs. Even though the Northville site will close, no jobs are expected to be lost and the same level of service will continue elsewhere. The lab handled DNA, fingerprints, drug samples, and trace evidence for crime scenes.
All 60 workers will be reassigned to the police’s network of labs in Bridgeport, Lansing, Grand Rapids, Marquette, Grayling and Detroit. The move depends on adding a 10, 000‑square‑foot wing at the Detroit facility, which could take a year or more. Police officials promise to keep disruptions to law‑enforcement partners as low as possible during the transition. "
