Feeling stressed by the upcoming holidays? Why not take a break and dive into some captivating British crime shows? We've got three fantastic recommendations for you this November. Two are fresh releases, while one hit Netflix two years ago. These shows are perfect for forgetting about holiday chaos for a few hours.
Let's start with "Rebus, " returning to our screens after a successful run from 2000 to 2007. Created by Ian Rankin, this Scottish detective has been popular since his debut in 1987. The new series, produced by Viaplay and broadcast by the BBC, stars Richard Rankin as Rebus. This time, Rebus is more vulnerable, dealing with a recent divorce and feeling out of place in his work environment. Plus, he's up against an intimidating Edinburgh gangster. With six episodes in the first season, "Rebus" is already a hit abroad and is likely to stick around for years.
Next, we have "Inspector Ellis, " a mini-series airing on Acorn TV. Sharon D. Clarke plays the titular detective who's called in when local police can't solve a case. A teenager and his girlfriend have vanished, and Ellis must deal with a town that ignores their kids' secret activities. With only three episodes, it's a quick binge with clever twists and a great performance by Clarke.
Lastly, "Inside Man" is a 2022 release streaming on Netflix. Written by Steven Moffat and starring David Tennant, this show brings together a London journalist, an English priest, and an American convict. Their lives intersect in unexpected ways, building tension over four episodes. While some plot points are a stretch, the show is highly entertaining.
