Nuclear Plant in Danger as Fighting Rises
Moscow, RussiaFri Mar 13 2026
The chief of Russia’s state nuclear company said that the area around Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia power station is becoming riskier for military reasons.
He pointed out that the frequency of shelling, drone raids and mortar fire has gone up in recent months.
Because of these attacks the industrial zone is hit all the time, and power outages happen from time to time.
The leader met with the head of the international nuclear watchdog in Moscow.
During that meeting he welcomed a suggestion to create a cease‑fire zone around the plant, hoping it would bring back electricity.
A cease‑fire had already been declared for the fifth time earlier in March.
The situation shows how war can threaten nuclear safety and civilian life.
It also highlights the need for clear agreements to keep dangerous sites out of conflict zones.
