Convicted British nurse, Lucy Letby, may soon have her case re-examined. Her lawyer, Mark McDonald, plans to present new evidence to the appeals court. The leading expert from the prosecution team, Dr. Dewi Evans, has changed his opinion about how three infants died. This new development calls into question the reliability of the evidence used in her conviction. Letby, who is currently serving multiple life sentences for the deaths of seven babies and the attempted murders of seven more, has always maintained her innocence. The Court of Appeal will review her appeal request this week.
The Countess of Chester Hospital in northwestern England is also under scrutiny. An inquiry is ongoing to understand why the hospital failed to recognize the cause of the infants' deaths and why it took so long to stop Lucy Letby. The Crown Prosecution Service has yet to comment on McDonald's claims.
