NYC Schools Under Scrutiny for Alleged Anti‑Jewish Bias

The New York City Department of Education is being examined by the state’s Office for Civil Rights after claims that some teachers formed a group called “NYC Educators for Palestine. ” Reports say the group ran workshops on topics such as “Palestine, Zionism, and Resistance, ” teaching young children about Palestinian struggle and labeling Zionists as “genocidal white supremacists. ” The group is also alleged to support Hamas, a federally listed terrorist organization. Students and parents allege that these lessons have fostered “hostility and hatred” toward Jewish classmates, potentially creating a hostile learning environment. The investigation will determine if the district has breached Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, which prohibits discrimination based on religion.Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Kimberly Richey stressed that no child should learn to hate peers or be blamed for their faith. She said the department will not ignore antisemitic harassment and will pursue the matter to protect all students. The probe follows a federal executive order aimed at combating anti‑Semitic acts and reminds schools that compliance with Title VI is required for federal funding.
