The paper has a clear process for placing an obituary. First, send an email to obits@pioneerpress. com with the required details: your full name, address, phone numbers and an alternate number if you have one. In the same message include the deceased’s name, a brief text for the notice, and a photo in JPEG or PDF format. Other image types will be accepted but may need confirmation. Next, decide how many days the notice will run. The cost drops if you choose more than one day, but you must schedule the first date to qualify. If a photo is used, it must appear on every selected day for the discount to apply. Verification of death is mandatory. Provide either a funeral home phone number or a death certificate. The obituary desk will contact the funeral service during normal business hours to confirm the information. If the body was donated to an anatomy program, a phone number for that program is also required.
The paper will send you a proof via fax or email before publication. Check it carefully for errors and let them know of any changes before the daily deadline. Once you approve, you must pay by phone. Credit card payments are only accepted over the phone due to security regulations; electronic transfers can also be arranged by providing routing and account numbers. Pricing is based on line count. The first 12 lines cost $162, each additional line costs $12, and notices longer than 40 lines receive a 7. 5% discount per line. A second run gives a 20% discount on both placements, and the third notice is free if you submit three at once. Photos cost $125 per day. For memoriam notices, which are remembrances rather than obituaries, rates differ. Contact the desk for details. All deadlines must be met to ensure publication on the requested day. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, closed on weekends and holidays.
