Thursday was a packed day for high school sports, with lots of exciting games and matches happening all over. Let's start with girls' soccer. Sartell-St. Stephen pulled off a big 5-0 win against Sauk Rapids-Rice. Over in Willmar, the girls won 4-1 against Apollo, with Leighton Engel scoring the lone goal for Apollo. Providence Academy had a close game, beating Cathedral 3-2, where Bayley Schneider scored both of Cathedral's goals. St. John's Prep also won, this time 2-0 against Albany, with both goals happening in the second half. Little Falls had a tight match, beating Melrose 1-0.
In boys' soccer, Tech and Moorhead had a tense game that ended in a 0-0 draw. Sartell-St. Stephen dominated with a 7-0 win over Sauk Rapids-Rice. ROCORI and Brainerd ended up tying 2-2, with Jayden Garcia and Noah Mick scoring for the Spartans. Cathedral had a great game, winning 4-0 against Minnewaska, with Jacob Oliver scoring three goals and one assist. Melrose also had a high-scoring game, winning 4-3 against Little Falls. Volleyball was intense too! Alexandria beat ROCORI 3-2 in a close match. Willmar and Sauk Rapids-Rice had a long game, with Willmar winning 3-1. Cathedral had a smooth win against Pierz, 3-0. Albany also had a solid victory, beating Foley 3-0. Princeton, Annandale, Royalton, Maple Lake, Minnewaska, Watertown-Mayer, and Sauk Centre all had 3-0 or 3-1 wins over their opponents. In girls' tennis, St. Cloud Crush had a strong performance, winning 6-1 against ROCORI. The Crush will play Bemidji next in the Section semi-finals.
