Oscars “In Memoriam” Skips Some TV Stars, Fans React

Los Angeles, USAMon Mar 16 2026
The Oscars’ tribute to those who died in 2025 and early 2026 left out several well‑known actors, sparking criticism on social media. James Van Der Beek and Eric Dane were among the names omitted, even though both had notable film roles in addition to their TV fame. Van Der Beek lost his battle with colon cancer in February, and Dane died from ALS later that month. Fans on X called the omission a “missed opportunity” and said it was wrong to leave them out. Other well‑known performers were also excluded. Actress Brigitte Bardot, “Cosby Show” star Malcolm‑Jamal Warner and the father of “Lizzie McGuire, ” Robert Carradine, did not appear in the segment.
The show still honored many high‑profile figures, such as Catherine O’Hara, Robert Duvall and Diane Ladd. It gave special attention to director Rob Reiner, actress Diane Keaton and actor Robert Redford. Redford’s tribute featured a performance by Barbra Streisand, who sang “The Way We Were. ” Rachel McAdams praised Keaton as a “legend with no end” after the 79‑year‑old’s passing. Reiner, who was murdered in December 2025, was remembered by Kiefer Sutherland and Meg Ryan. Producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan explained that the segment is carefully planned from graphics to timing. They said it offers a chance for people to say goodbye and remember their favorites one last time. The industry has endured many losses this year, according to Mullan.
