Paris Investigates Possible Foreign Attack on Local Elections
Paris, FranceWed May 27 2026
A new investigation has begun in Paris to see if a foreign power tried to ruin the chances of three left‑wing mayoral hopefuls. The cases involve candidates from a party that supports Palestine and is known as France Unbowed. They were allegedly targeted just before the March municipal elections.
The allegations point to a small Israeli company called BlackCore. Reporters say it ran fake websites and social media profiles that claimed the candidates had committed crimes. It also used negative digital ads to spread doubt about them.
Paris prosecutors decided to start an independent probe on their own. They want to give clear answers about the safety of French elections, a concern that has grown after similar incidents in other cities. The investigation will look at evidence from separate investigations in Marseille and Toulouse, and it will use the expertise of a national cyber police unit.
French law says foreign interference means actions done by a foreign government. If the investigation finds that only private companies or individuals from abroad were involved, it would not be considered foreign interference. The prosecutors are working through a division that deals with military and national security threats.
The suspects in the case include the mayoral candidates for Marseille, Toulouse and Roubaix. The party has faced accusations of antisemitism from some Jewish leaders and critics, which it denies. Business leaders also criticize its high tax and spending policies.
After reporters asked about the matter, BlackCore described itself as a top influence‑marketing and cyber firm that helps governments and campaigns. It claims to offer advanced tools and security for shaping public opinion. The company has not yet replied to further inquiries.
