Ever since Wednesday, January 22, users of the Pixel Weather app have noticed some key settings have vanished. These settings include toggles for immersive vibrations and AI-powered weather reports, weather units, and app themes. Despite their disappearance, these features seem to be working non-stop, even if users previously disabled them.
No one's sure if Google pulled these settings on purpose or if it's a glitch. The issue seems to be coming from their servers. We've tried to contact Google for more info.
The Pixel Weather app was released alongside the Pixel 9 series in August last year. It offers cool features like weather maps, customizable layouts, pollen counts, and AI-powered weather reports. These reports give you quick updates on upcoming weather, like "Light snow from 5:02 PM to 12:00 AM. " There are also immersive weather vibrations that mimic the feel of rain through your phone's haptic feedback.
However, settings for both these features have gone missing. The app's version is 1. 0. 20241108. 700112341. release, and there haven't been any updates since then. This makes us think it might be a server-side error.
Other settings, like for weather units and app themes, are also MIA from the profile section. This leaves the menu looking quite bare.
A temporary fix to bring back the AI Weather Report setting is to clear the app's data, but it only works for a few minutes before the setting disappears again. Since the feature is on by default, you'll keep seeing AI-generated reports even without the setting.
An editor at Android Police, Dallas Thomas, confirmed that he couldn't turn off these reports after Wednesday, January 22. The same goes for weather vibrations.
It's unclear if Google wants these features always enabled or if this is just a temporary issue. We're waiting to hear back from Google.
