Plainfield North Shines in State Science Olympiad

The University of Illinois hosted the state‑level Science Olympiad, where 54 schools vied for top honors. Plainfield North High School, after placing fourth in its regional meet, qualified to compete among the best teams in the state.
At the tournament on April 18, students from Plainfield North delivered standout performances across multiple events. In Disease Detectives, juniors Devanshi Chauhan and Umair Khan captured first place. The Helicopter event earned a third‑place finish for senior Varshid Chidambara and sophomore Vamshid Chidambara.
Seniors Patricia Botnari and Kaitlyn Gaszak secured third place in Rocks and Minerals, while Nyla Rizvi and Akshith Vasa earned fourth in Dynamic Planet. Junior Daniel Chavez achieved fifth place in Electric Vehicle, adding to the team’s impressive tally of podium spots.
The state‑qualifying roster featured a mix of experience and fresh talent: seniors Carson Payne, Kyle Zumstein, and the others listed; juniors Nicolas Barrios, Devanshi Chauhan, Daniel Chavez, Gavin Gunderson, Umair Khan, and Dylan O’Connor; and sophomores Vamshid Chidambara and Sahil Sabzaali.
These results underscore the growth of Plainfield North’s Science Olympiad program and reflect the dedication of its students and coaching staff. The team’s success demonstrates how hard work, collaboration, and curiosity can lead to achievement on a statewide stage.
