Plum Middle School Gets a Big Roof and More

Plum, Pennsylvania, USAThu Apr 30 2026
Plum Middle School is about to start another round of major upgrades after the school board signed contracts worth $3. 4 million. The first phase began last summer, and now the second phase will tackle the biggest job: replacing a roof that is over 25 years old and leaking into parts of the building. Strongland Roofing Systems, a company from Parks Township, will handle this work and also fix leaky roof sections at Plum High School. Another big contract, over $1 million, is with Hudson Construction Co. in Hermitage. They will redesign the front of the middle school, adding a new security vestibule, changing office spaces, and improving accessibility for people with disabilities.
These projects are part of a $30 million plan that also covers renovations and an addition at O’Block Elementary School. One of the most noticeable changes will move a section of the football field away from a concrete track that has been a safety concern. Palombo Landscaping Inc. , based in Penn Hills, will extend the track to keep it separate from the field. The school board is still deciding whether to install a cushioned surface for the entire track loop. Other contracts focus on inside improvements: plumbing, HVAC, and electrical upgrades. Most of the work is expected to finish before the next school year starts. School Director Michelle Stepnick, who has long supported the middle school, said the renovations are overdue and expressed excitement for the upcoming improvements.
