Poland strengthens its military with US help
Warsaw, PolandSat Jun 13 2026
The United States just made a big promise to Poland. On Friday, U. S. officials announced a new $4 billion loan for Poland to buy more weapons. This brings the total US military funding available to Poland to $20 billion. Why now? It’s the same day Poland showed off its brand new F-35 fighter jets in a big public display across the country.
Poland isn’t just buying these jets for fun. They ordered 32 of the advanced stealth fighter planes back in 2020. The first three arrived in May, and the rest are set to arrive by 2029. Poland says these jets are a game-changer for their defense. They’re fast, hard to detect, and packed with sensors that can share important information with other military units.
Poland is the first country on NATO’s eastern side to receive these jets. They’re showing them off not just for pride, but because they see Russia as a growing threat nearby. The F-35s give Poland a much stronger position in the region. Polish leaders say they even plan to add two more squadrons of these jets to their armed forces soon.
At the big flyover event, top Polish officials and a U. S. representative were there. The Polish Defence Minister explained how these jets are part of a larger plan to modernize their military. The new loan from the U. S. will help Poland buy even more defense tools.
But is this all just about keeping up with Russia? Some people wonder if the military buildup will make the region more stable or just lead to more tension. Meanwhile, Poland is moving full speed ahead with its plans.
