Police SUV Accident Blamed on Sudden Health Issue

A police vehicle overturned near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge‑Tunnel after the driver experienced a sudden medical problem, according to officials. The incident happened around noon on May 20, when the SUV tipped over onto a guardrail and hung partially off the bridge. Traffic in the southbound direction was halted for roughly an hour and a half while emergency crews cleared the wreckage.The driver, who was not seriously hurt, received a medical check at a nearby hospital but faced no disciplinary action. The incident follows a fatal accident on the same structure that occurred in February, when an 18‑wheel truck crashed into the water and killed its North Carolina driver. Investigators are still looking into that earlier crash, but the recent event was deemed a medical emergency rather than driver error.
