The Bay Area has been basking in sunny days and chilly nights, but that's about to change, according to meteorologists. By the end of the week, things will start to shift. A small weather disturbance might appear late Thursday or early Friday, marking the first break in the current pattern.
But the real shake-up happens this weekend. A strong system is expected to bring rain to the region, with the North Bay likely getting the most, around half an inch. The East Bay could see up to a quarter-inch, while the South Bay might get less.
Before that, the air quality is set to improve slightly, thanks to a bit of onshore flow starting Monday. This should help with pollution levels after a Spare the Air alert over the weekend.
But hold onto your hats, because the high pressure that's been keeping the skies clear and temperatures low is expected to return on Tuesday and Wednesday. Then comes the weak disturbance, which might bring light drizzle, mostly in the North Bay.
The big news, though, is that the sudden change in weather should finally send those freezing overnight temperatures packing. And get this – high surf is expected next weekend, with waves possibly reaching over 10 feet. That could combine with king tides to cause some flooding issues in coastal areas.
