In the woods near Berlin, protesters are refusing to come down from the trees. German police are trying to clear the camp, climbed up ladders to reach the protesters and cut down the rope structures they've set up. Why all the fuss? Tesla's planning to expand their gigafactory, the only one in Europe, and hire around 12, 000 more people. But the Group Disrupt Tesla isn't happy about this. They think doubling the factory size will hurt the environment.
Mila, speaking for the protesters, said, "Some of us are still holding on in the trees. It's cold and slippery, but we won't stop protesting. " Police have said that the protest has turned dangerous, and they need to make sure the factory is safe. Some protesters left after the clearance was announced, but others are sticking it out.
In the past, these protesters have caused trouble by blocking a nearby highway and sitting on railway tracks. They're using social media to call for more people to join in, saying Tesla and its boss, Elon Musk, are destroying the forests and water. Tesla didn't respond to requests for comment.
