Rain hits Central New York, icy roads may follow Monday

A front will bring rain across Central New York on Sunday, lifting temperatures to the mid‑50s. The showers start late in the morning and grow stronger through the afternoon, dropping a quarter to half an inch over many spots. As night falls and the front moves south, the rain will ease from north to south. A brief mix of snow, drizzle and maybe some freezing rain could appear on the back side as the precipitation ends. Even if all rain stops, roads will still be wet when temperatures slide into the upper 20s at dawn.Patchy ice could form, especially on bridges and overpasses, making the Monday morning commute slippery. After that, Monday will be dry and cool with highs in the mid‑30s and lows falling to the lower 20s overnight. Tuesday will stay quiet, mostly sunny with temperatures in the mid‑40s. The rest of the week will see more showers, but temperatures will climb into the 50s by Thursday. Thursday’s rain will leave cooler air on Friday and Saturday, keeping the area wet for a few more days.
