Rain Stops the Red Sox’s Spring Training Game
Sarasota, FL, USAMon Mar 16 2026
A rainstorm made a planned match between the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles impossible to play. The game, which was set for 6:05 p. m. at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, had to be called off because heavy rain and storms were coming across southwest Florida that day. The organizers decided not to find another date for the match.
Before the cancellation, Boston had planned to start with pitcher Sonny Gray against Orioles’ Kyle Bradish. The lineup mainly featured players fighting for a spot on the bench or those likely to spend the season in the minor leagues. Carlos Narvaez was expected to catch, Nick Sogard would have played shortstop, Andruw Monasterio was set for third base, and Kristian Campbell was slated to play center field.
The Red Sox will be back in action on Tuesday, heading home to JetBlue Park in Fort Myers. They will face the Atlanta Braves at 1:05 p. m. , and fans can watch the game on NESN or listen to it live on WEEI 850 AM.
