Reality TV Moves Back Home
Ireland, DublinTue May 05 2026
Fox shows are often filmed far from the U. S. , but many studios want to bring production closer.
A recent example is “The Floor, ” a game show that was shot in Ireland because it was cheaper to travel there than to film on the Fox lot.
Fox executives say they do a lot of work in America, citing shows like “Kitchen Nightmares, ” “Hell’s Kitchen, ” and the new dating series “Marriage Market. ”
However, they also acknowledge that some programs thrive abroad.
Partnerships with local production companies and tax incentives make overseas locations attractive, especially for studio‑based projects.
Some shows choose foreign sites for creative reasons.
Peacock’s “Love Island USA” and Amazon’s “Beast Games” use exotic locations to boost visual appeal.
The scenery can add excitement, with beaches and mountains enhancing the story.
Creators say that these settings help make the show feel fresh.
Other networks shift production based on cost and logistics.
Jay Pharoah, who hosts “The Quiz with Balls, ” noted that the show moved from Australia to Belgium after changes in U. S. policy made domestic filming cheaper.
He joked that the food in Belgium was not great, but he appreciated the savings.
Netflix and other streaming giants also decide based on where their partners are located.
The company that made “The Golden Ticket” is based in Australia, so the show was filmed there.
Similarly, “Monopoly” is shot in the UK because its production house operates from there.
These decisions show that while U. S. production is preferred, global partnerships still play a big role.
In the end, networks weigh many factors.
If a show can be made well and cheaply elsewhere, they will consider it.
But when the benefits of staying in America outweigh overseas options, they are ready to film at home.
