Records of Special Education Students to Be Deleted in 2026
Coweta, Oklahoma, USAWed May 27 2026
Coweta Public Schools has announced that it will erase all paperwork related to special education students who were enrolled or graduated in the 2020 school year, as well as those who have left the district but once took part in Special Services programs. The planned deletion will take place on June 3, 2026.
Parents who want to verify whether their child’s file is scheduled for destruction can call the Special Services office at 918‑486‑6103, extension 8009. Those who wish to retrieve the documents before they are removed can pick them up from Coweta Intermediate High School. The school gives families the chance to keep these records before they are permanently deleted.
The decision follows new privacy guidelines that aim to limit the amount of personal data kept by schools. By removing outdated files, the district hopes to protect student information and reduce storage costs.
Some parents may feel uneasy about losing records that could be useful for future educational or medical needs. Others appreciate the effort to clear out unnecessary paperwork and comply with regulations.
Coweta officials encourage families to act quickly if they need the documents. After the cutoff date, no further requests will be possible, and all files will be destroyed in accordance with state law.
