Retiring U. S. Rep. Kay Granger, who is 81, has been missing votes in Congress due to unexpected health problems. She hasn't cast a vote since July 24, resulting in her missing 126 roll call votes since then. Recent rumors suggested she was in a memory care unit, but her office denied this. In a statement, Granger acknowledged experiencing health setbacks, adding that her staff has kept up excellent work. Her son confirmed she has dementia issues and is living in an independent facility at Tradition Senior Living in Fort Worth.
Granger's absence has led to missed votes, including crucial ones like the bill preventing a government shutdown. Despite her struggles, she was honored in November with House leaders presenting at her event in Washington. Granger has a notable career, serving 27 years in Congress and chairing the federal budget committee. She's known for securing defense contracts and funding for projects like Panther Island. She stepped down from re-election, and the candidate she endorsed, Craig Goldman, replaced her.
