Rep. Roy Joins Freedom Caucus Meet with Trump amid Threats

Representative Chip Roy from Texas, who recently received threats from the incoming President regarding his political future, attended a dinner meeting at Mar-a-Lago with the House Freedom Caucus. Representative Eli Crane from Arizona shared a picture of the event, showing a group that included Roy, Jim Jordan from Ohio, Lauren Boebert from Colorado, and Andy Ogles from Tennessee, among others. The meeting took place after Trump had encouraged Texas Republicans to challenge Roy in the next primary. He had criticized Roy for obstructing efforts to raise the debt ceiling in December. The Hill reported that the Freedom Caucus planned to discuss their preferred policies and strategies with Trump, aiming to balance his legislation goals with fiscal restraint. The meeting comes at a critical time as Republicans are figuring out how to execute Trump's agenda on border control, energy, tax cuts, and other issues. The Freedom Caucus backs a two-bill approach while Trump favors a single, comprehensive bill. During Friday's meeting, members insisted on the two-bill strategy. Notably, Elon Musk was also present at the meeting. The Trump transition team didn't comment on the discussion details.
