Rock Star Says Celebs Should Keep Quiet on Politics

Washington, D.C., USAWed Mar 11 2026
Gene Simmons, the lead singer of the band KISS, told a gossip outlet that actors like Mark Ruffalo and Ben Stiller should stop commenting on political matters. He argued that people who have a lot of money and fame are not the right voices to give advice about government actions. Simmons said that fans want to see artists perform, not hear them lecture. Simmons also mocked Ruffalo by calling him “Mark Buffalo” and insisted that he does not care about what the actor says. He added that nobody cares about his own political choices either, so he thinks it’s pointless for celebrities to weigh in on issues.
The singer made the comments after a group of entertainers were honored at the Kennedy Center by President Trump. Simmons has known the former president for many years and has usually kept his own political views private. Simmons concluded that entertainers should either stay out of politics entirely or, jokingly, ask a pop star like Kylie Jenner for her opinion on war. He repeated that the public’s focus should be on art, not commentary.
