iRobot, the company behind the famous Roomba vacuums, is going through big changes. They've filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. This means they're restructuring to stay afloat. But don't worry, your Roomba won't stop working. The company says everything will keep running as usual.
iRobot has had a tough time lately. They've faced more competition, had to let go of some workers, and their stock price has dropped. Remember when Amazon wanted to buy them for $1. 7 billion? That deal fell through last year. Amazon blamed it on too many rules from the European Union.
Now, iRobot is being bought by Picea. Picea is their main manufacturer, based in China and Vietnam. They've made over 20 million robotic vacuums. The CEO, Gary Cohen, says this deal will help iRobot stay strong and keep serving their customers.
Even with all this, iRobot's shares took a big hit. In early trading, they dropped nearly 70% to $1. 31. It's a tough time for the company, but they're hoping this restructuring will help them bounce back.
