Russell Brand, a well-known actor and comedian, is now facing more serious legal issues. British prosecutors have added two more charges of sexual assault and rape to his existing legal troubles. This brings the total number of charges against him to seven.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced these new charges in a press release. They said they have enough evidence to support these charges and believe it is important to pursue them. Lionel Idan, the Chief Crown Prosecutor, explained that they are confident in the evidence and the public interest in these cases.
Back in May, Brand appeared in court to plead not guilty to five charges of sex crimes. These charges are related to incidents that allegedly happened between 1999 and 2005. The charges include two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault.
The new charges involve two different women who say they were victims of rape and sexual assault. These incidents allegedly happened in February and August of 2009. Brand will have his first hearing for these new charges on January 20, 2026, at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
Brand’s trial for the initial five charges is set for June 2026. He is accused of rape in Bournemouth, England, in 1999, and four other crimes that allegedly took place in the London area.
Before his trial, Brand posted a video on Instagram where he responded to the charges. He admitted to having problems with drugs and sex but strongly denied being a rapist. He also criticized the legal system, calling it a “weapon. ”
