Russia Rejects Claim That Trump Is Losing Interest in Ukraine Talks

Moscow, RussiaMon Mar 16 2026
The Kremlin has denied a claim that U. S. President Donald Trump is drifting away from the Ukraine peace process, saying the opposite is true. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russian officials had read a Financial Times article that suggested Trump was more focused on Iran, but Russia disagrees with that assessment. Peskov noted that Trump has repeatedly mentioned Ukraine in his public remarks, indicating ongoing concern for the conflict. He added that Trump is pushing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to reach a settlement quickly.
Earlier in the month, Trump told Politico that “Zelenskyy has to get on the ball” and urged him to finalize a deal. Trump also declined Zelenskyy’s offer to help the United States target drones in Gulf states, telling NBC that “the last person we need help from is Zelenskyy. ” Despite the disagreement, Russia still wants to keep diplomatic channels open and hopes for a future meeting, though no date or venue has been set. The Kremlin’s statement highlights the tension between media reports and official diplomatic positions.
