As the war in Ukraine continues, the toll on Russian military equipment is becoming clear. According to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Russia has lost almost 10, 000 tanks, around 20, 000 armored patrol vehicles (APVs), and nearly 30, 000 vehicles and fuel tanks since the start of their full-scale invasion in 2022. In the past week alone, they've lost over 10, 000 soldiers, 87 tanks, and many more vehicles.
Russia is trying to keep up with these losses. But how long can they hold on? Some people think Russia is running out of military power quickly. Ukraine's Defense Ministry shared a quote from H. Jackson Brown, saying, "You either make dust or eat dust. " This quote shows that Russia is either causing destruction or facing it.
The losses are going up fast. Tank losses especially increased in May and October. The same goes for APVs. And the loss of vehicles and fuel tanks has been the most dramatic, growing a lot since March.
Even with these heavy losses, Russia has made some advancements in the Donetsk region. But these advancements came after losing many Ukrainian troops. Plus, North Korea sent soldiers to fight with Russia. The Ukrainian Defense Minister said these soldiers were dressed like Russian troops from Buryatia when fighting Ukrainian soldiers.
