Samsung Display has introduced a new brand called “QD‑OLED Penta‑Tandem. ” The name means “five layers” in Greek, and it refers to the extra layer added to its OLED panels.
The company says this fifth layer makes the screens brighter and lasts longer. It also helps keep the picture clear when many pixels are packed into a small space.
Last year, Samsung added four layers to its panels and this year it added a fifth. The result is better energy use and higher brightness for both TVs and monitors.
The 27‑inch UHD monitor that launched last year already has a very high pixel density—160 pixels per inch. That makes it the best self‑emissive gaming monitor on the market right now.
With the new five‑layer design, Samsung claims brightness can rise by 1. 3 times and lifespan can double compared to the four‑layer version. Some monitors now hit 1, 300 nits of brightness and TVs can reach up to 4, 500 nits.
The panels also meet a strict HDR standard called VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500. This means the screen can show very dark blacks while still hitting high brightness levels.
Samsung plans to use this technology on all its sizes next year, including a 49‑inch Dual QHD model. Major customers already use it in high‑end TVs and monitors.
