Samsung’s New Screen Tech Slashes Glare and Toughens Panels

South KoreaSat Mar 28 2026
Samsung Display has rolled out a fresh update for its QD‑OLED panels called QuantumBlack. The new layer helps cut glare in bright rooms, making the screen easier on the eyes when sunlight or overhead lights shine directly on it. The coating also raises the panel’s scratch resistance from a 2H to a 3H rating, meaning it can better withstand light scratches—even from fingernails.
Other brands are joining in: ASUS is offering a similar “Black Shield, ” Gigabyte has “Obsidian Shield, ” and MSI presents “Dark Armor. ” These are likely rebranded versions of Samsung’s QuantumBlack, aiming to give everyone a low‑reflection option. By tackling glare and improving durability, the move hopes to change the idea that QD‑OLEDs only look good in dim settings. Early long‑term tests suggest OLED panels do not inevitably burn in, though extreme use can still cause damage. Overall, the new coatings could make QD‑OLED monitors more practical for everyday use in bright offices or living rooms.
