San Diego's Unequal Growth: Who Benefits?

San Diego's mayor had big plans to make the city fairer. Three years ago, he started "Build Better San Diego. " The goal was to fix up old parts of the city and make things more equal. But now, it looks like the plan is making things worse. The mayor wants to add lots of new houses and people to some areas. But these areas don't have good parks, schools, or even fire stations. One place, the College Area, is getting the biggest change. They want to add 34, 150 new houses. That's a lot! But the area only has one tiny park and no fire station.Other parts of San Diego are getting fewer changes. These places have more parks and better buildings. They also have fire stations. So why is the College Area getting so much more density? It doesn't make sense. The mayor says he wants one city. But the plan makes two cities. One city has lots of resources. The other city has few resources. The College Area is getting more people but not more help. This is not fair. The mayor and his team are not fixing the problems. They are making them worse. They are adding more people to a place that doesn't have enough. This is not a good plan. It's not fair to the people who live there.
