Nestled in the beautiful rolling hills of Menifee's Quail Valley, the serene landscape is often disrupted by the overpowering stench of failing septic systems during heavy rainstorms. For years, these faulty septic tanks have been spilling raw sewage into yards and roadways, creating a public health hazard and a terrible smell. The failing systems also pose a risk to the community's drinking water, as the sewage eventually makes its way downstream to Canyon Lake, the local reservoir. To address this issue, Corona Congressman Ken Calvert has secured $9 million in federal funding for the Quail Valley Septic to Sewer Conversion Project, led by Eastern Municipal Water District.
This project aims to extend a collection system within the streets and convert the septic systems at each home to a sewer system, which will also help waive the connection fee for homeowners. The benefits of this project will not be limited to Quail Valley, as converting homes from septic to sewer will avoid any risk of contamination of Canyon Lake, protecting communities downstream as well. The project is set to begin early next year and will convert 250 homes, providing relief for homeowners like Debra Mancini who are tired of the high costs
