Vibrations are all around us, from the rumble of a train to the pulsating beats of music. But what about vibrations in exercise? Imagine a special platform that shakes at different speeds and the idea is that it makes your muscles stronger. Well, that's the idea behind whole-body vibration (WBV).
45 women who didn't typically work out decided to give it a try. Some were asked to stand on a platform that vibrated at 45hz while others got 25hz. At the end of the 6 weeks, all of the women were tested again. And, surprise, surprise, everyone got better at jumping, not just those with the vibrations.
The women who received WBV saw improvements in their trunk muscles. Some might wonder if it helped their balance. However, it did not. This means WBV might not be the miracle workout some claim it to be. It might help in some ways
Standing still on a vibrating platform is not the same as traditional exercise. With traditional exercise, you're moving your body and working your muscles. It might feel easier, but some might think it's not as effective and it is not enough to improve your skills. Remember, WBV is just one way to exercise. It is not the only way.
Some might be wondering: So, who should care about this information? If you're an athlete or someone who wants to improve your performance, this information might be useful. You can see how different exercises work in your body
Think bigger. With more research, we'll learn more about how WBV works and who it's best for. As of now, don't let WBV be your only exercise routine. Keep exploring other ways to stay active and healthy.
It is important to remember whats missing from this study. Vibration training is one way to exercise but it can't be used in isolation. There are many types of exercise that might be more beneficial than vibration training, but we cannot be sure without further study.
