Sierra Steps Up: Overwatch Brings New Hero, Events and Spring Vibes

Irvine, CA, USAWed Apr 15 2026
A fresh chapter in the Overwatch saga has begun with Season 2: Summit, a package that adds new challenges and visual flair to the game. The highlight is Sierra, a former security chief from Watchpoint: Grand Mesa who now fights the Talon organization. Her backstory links her to a soldier‑enhancement experiment involving her mother, and she joined Overwatch after uncovering clues that led to Jack Morrison and Gabriel Reyes. Sierra is a damage hero who wields a rifle, controls a combat drone named Dorothy, and brings confidence and quick thinking to the battlefield. To celebrate her arrival, the game hosts a three‑week solo event called Operation: Grand Mesa. Players can play matches and complete specific tasks to unlock story parts about Sierra’s past and the importance of Grand Mesa. The event runs from the start of Season 2 until early May.
Season 2 also revives the post‑match endorsement system. After a game, teammates or opponents can be voted on for standout performances, and the MVP is highlighted in an animated spotlight before the match ends. The map Antarctica Peninsula has been redesigned for smoother team movement and better flanking options. New Mythic skins appear in this season. Soldier: 76 receives a futuristic “Current Overload” skin, while Genji gets an ink‑wash style “Sumi‑Ichimonji. ” The stadium evolves with the addition of Ramattra, and a new Control map named Lijiang Night Market is introduced. Mid‑season, Jetpack Cat joins the stadium for a special appearance. Spring arrives with the Cherry Blossom Collection from mid‑April to early May. Heroes such as Hanzo, Genji, Freya, Juno, Emre, and Junker Queen receive cherry‑blossom inspired skins that range from bright to sophisticated. A collaboration with LE SSERAFIM returns for a limited period, offering 15 Legendary skins like “FEARLESS” and “Blue Flame. ” The game is now playable on Nintendo Switch 2, offering improved graphics and audio at up to 60 FPS in both docked and handheld modes.
