Airlines are slowly coming back to Israel. American Airlines is the latest to announce its return. They will start flying from New York to Tel Aviv on March 28. This comes after a long break. They stopped flights after the Hamas attack in October 2023. That attack started a big war in Gaza.
Other airlines like Delta and United are already flying to Israel again. Many foreign airlines stopped flying to Tel Aviv after the attack. They stayed away because of missile threats from Iran and Yemen. This left only a few Israeli airlines to handle flights. With fewer flights, ticket prices went up a lot.
Now, with a ceasefire in place, more airlines are returning. British Airways, SAS, Iberia, and Swiss are all set to restart their flights soon. When American Airlines joins, it will be the fifth carrier flying nonstop to Israel from the U. S.
United Airlines is also expanding its routes. They already fly daily from Newark. Soon, they will add flights from Washington and Chicago. This is good news for travelers.
Airport traffic in Israel is picking up. Ben Gurion International Airport saw a 25% increase in passengers. Over nine months, they had 13. 6 million travelers. However, El Al, the main Israeli airline, saw its market share drop. It went from 44% to 32. 5%.
