New Jersey will see a change in weather over the weekend, with snow arriving in the north and rain in the south. The National Weather Service says the first chance of snow is on Sunday night, especially near I‑95 and I‑195. Up to two inches could fall in those areas, but the forecast is still uncertain.
The snow that does come will be wet and heavy. It will stick to trees, power lines, and the ground, making roads slick. Drivers should be careful on Monday morning when traffic is heavy.
In the central part of the state, AccuWeather predicts between one and three inches of snow. The northern counties may get up to an inch, while the southern half will likely see only rain or a mix of rain and snow. Rain totals are expected to be around half an inch, with some spots reaching one inch.
Before the precipitation starts, a layer of freezing fog will form overnight. Temperatures will drop into the low 20s across most of New Jersey, and the fog may create a thin glaze of ice on exposed surfaces. This can make walking or driving even more hazardous.
The temperature trend will shift upward by mid‑week. Highs in the north will climb into the mid‑40s, while southern areas and the I‑95 corridor could reach the upper 40s or low 50s. Nighttime lows will stay in the low to mid‑30s.
Another weather system could bring a mix of rain, snow, or wintry precipitation on Wednesday night. A subsequent storm might arrive later in the week, so residents should stay alert to changing conditions.
