Snow Surprise for California’s Sierra and Light Drizzle in Los Angeles

California, USASat Mar 28 2026
A fresh spring weather system is headed toward California, promising a mix of snowfall in the Sierra Nevada and gentle rain over Los Angeles. The National Weather Service predicts two distinct precipitation events for the Tahoe area. The first wave rolls in Monday evening and continues into Tuesday night, bringing up to two inches of snow near Mammoth. A stronger surge follows from Alaska on Wednesday and lasts through Thursday, with forecasts of up to a foot of snow on the highest peaks in the Tahoe basin. Lower elevations could see between two and five inches, while Lake Tahoe itself may receive around three inches.
Meteorologists note that this pattern is not unusual for the current dry and warm March weather in the region. The earlier snow helps explain why temperatures will rise to the mid‑60s and low 70s by Friday, with winds reaching up to 25 miles per hour. By Saturday, South Lake Tahoe could warm to 66 degrees and continue climbing by Sunday, returning temperatures closer to normal for late March. The second storm may also lower snow levels below 7, 000 feet and even down to 5, 000 feet early Thursday, adding wind-related concerns. Los Angeles faces a smaller but still noticeable threat: there is a 20 to 40 percent chance of light rain from Tuesday into Wednesday, adding a brief drizzle to the city’s otherwise clear skies.
