For the second day in a row, a powerful blizzard slammed into New York City, the Lower Hudson Valley and Long Island, pushing snow totals past every previous February mark.
Four key weather stations around the city measured snowfall at midnight, each smashing records that had stood for decades. The new highs ranged from 10. 9 inches at Central Park to a staggering 19. 6 inches in Islip, Suffolk County.
Adding the two days together—February 22 and February 23—the total snowfall at these sites climbed between 19 and 25 inches, with Babylon reporting the highest amount of 29. 5 inches.
While John F. Kennedy Airport broke the record on its own day, it was the only airport that did not reach a new high for two consecutive days.
Residents across the region, especially on Long Island and Staten Island, saw around two feet of snow, turning familiar streets into winter wonderlands.
