Snowy School Day Forces Many Class Cancellations
Massachusetts, USAFri Mar 06 2026
Heavy winter weather hit parts of Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire on Friday, making roads icy and sidewalks slick.
Because of the danger, many school districts decided to close schools or push back start times so that drivers could clear the streets safely.
The cold front is expected to linger through the morning, bringing more snow and sleet that could turn untreated roads into slippery traps.
Officials warned parents to drive carefully, noting that even light snow can change road conditions quickly.
A long list of schools is affected. In Massachusetts, nearly twenty public schools were closed outright, from Ashburnham‑Westminster Regional to Worcester Public Schools. Many others ran late or shortened their days, such as Bedford and Concord Public Schools.
In New Hampshire, districts like Hampton Falls and North Hampton also shut down or delayed classes.
Private schools were not spared either. Arlington Catholic High School and Bancroft School closed for the day, while several others adjusted their schedules to accommodate the weather.
Higher education institutions followed suit; Fitchburg State University stayed shut, and several community colleges began classes later in the morning.
Parents are urged to check local announcements for any updates, as conditions can change quickly. Keeping students safe by avoiding dangerous travel is the priority for all schools involved.
