South Carolina’s High School Sports League Faces New Leadership

The South Carolina High School League (SCHSL) is preparing for a major change in its top position. Jerome Singleton, who has led the league since 2005, will step down as commissioner by July 1, 2027. The decision was made after a lengthy meeting where the Executive Committee voted unanimously. Singleton’s long tenure has seen many developments in state high school athletics. In a statement, committee chair Adam Lanford said the league will work quickly to find his replacement and will honor Singleton’s contributions for a year‑and‑a‑half. “We appreciate everything he has done, ” Lanford added.At the same time, lawmakers in South Carolina are debating a bill that would replace the SCHSL with a state‑run body to manage public school sports.
