Spring Sports Stars Get Their Big Moment

The Detroit High School Sports Awards, backed by Gift of Life Michigan and other local sponsors, will spotlight the top athletes for the 2025‑26 spring season on June 24 at Motor City Casino Hotel. The live ceremony will also honor the fall and winter nominees, whose lists are already available online. In addition to individual player awards, the event will crown the best boys and girls teams, recognize outstanding coaches, and present a Courage Award for exceptional character.
Athletes who register through the official link receive free admission thanks to generous sponsors, while extra tickets can be bought on the event’s website. The awards program is part of the national USA TODAY High School Sports Awards network.
Spring nominees cover a wide array of sports. Baseball candidates include Ethan Armstrong from Garden City, Hudson Brzustewicz from Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, and many others representing schools across the state. Boys’ lacrosse names include Nathan Anderer of Hartland and Brody Giacona of Romeo, while girls’ soccer showcases talents such as Nia Bordogna from Bloomfield Hills Marian and Brooke Burke of Huron High. Softball nominees feature Irelyn Bednarchik from Fraser and a mix of players from Northville, Wyandotte Roosevelt, and other schools. Girls’ tennis highlights Laila Aslam of Grosse Pointe North and Helen Benjamin from Birmingham Detroit Country Day.
Track & field nominees span both genders, with Deandre Bidden of Harper Woods leading the boys and a roster that includes athletes from Novi Detroit Catholic Central, Royal Oak Shrine, and Clarkston. The girls’ track field list is not yet fully detailed but will follow the same high‑level representation.
