St. Cloud has seen a lot of snow this December. The National Weather Service reports that the city has already received 15. 7 inches of snow. This is way more than usual for this time of year. Normally, St. Cloud gets about 8. 7 inches of snow in December. So, they are already 7 inches above average.
To make it into the top 10 snowiest Decembers on record, St. Cloud needs about 2. 5 more inches of snow in the next two days. The top spot is held by 1927, with a whopping 25. 5 inches of snow. Other years with heavy snowfall include 1968, 1969, and 2008.
More snow is expected soon. A fast-moving weather system, called a clipper, will bring light snow to areas along and north of I-94 on Tuesday. They might get up to an inch of snow. Another clipper will move through on Wednesday, bringing more snow to areas along and south of I-94.
So far this season, St. Cloud has had a total of 23. 7 inches of snow. This is 7. 1 inches more than usual for this time of year. Last year at this time, they had only 10. 3 inches of snow.
All this snow has made it a great time for winter activities. The Stearns County Parks Department has posted on Facebook that all of its cross-country ski trails are ready for use. The St. Cloud Park and Recreation Department says that the Nordic Ski Club of Central Minnesota grooms a trail at Riverside Park. The trail lights are on from 4–10 pm every day.
