Human rights are a big deal. They are the foundation of a fair and just society. The United States, a country that helped create the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, needs to take a good, hard look at its own actions. Under President Donald Trump, things have taken a turn for the worse. The treatment of protesters, immigrants, and even students has been harsh and unfair. The administration has been targeting people who speak out, detaining them without good reason, and even deporting journalists. This is not okay. Take Mahmoud Khalil, for example. He was detained for months just for protesting. Leqaa Kordia, another activist, has been held since March 2025. These are not isolated cases. Journalists like Mario Guevara have also been targeted. This sends a clear message: if you speak up, you might face serious consequences. Immigrants are facing some of the worst conditions. Detention centers like the Everglades Detention Facility, nicknamed “Alligator Alcatraz, ” are known for their cruel treatment. People are being denied medical care and proper legal representation. This is a violation of basic human rights. Militarized forces have been taking over streets, especially in communities of color. Nighttime raids, tear gas, and rubber bullets have become common. Children are being separated from their parents, and asylum seekers are being denied their rights. These are not just policy disagreements; they are clear human rights violations. The Trump administration is trying to silence dissent by spreading fear. But people are not backing down. Millions have protested, demanding accountability and respect for human rights. This is a fight for what is right, not a political issue. Human rights are universal. They belong to everyone, everywhere, all the time. If we stay silent, more violations will follow. It's time for collective action. Colleges must protect students' rights. Lawmakers need to hold the administration accountable. The U. S. should also reengage globally in human rights initiatives. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted to ensure freedom, justice, and peace. Everyone deserves to live freely, equally, and with dignity. We can do better. The path forward starts with accountability, courage, and standing together. Every day, we should raise our voices and demand that the United States does what is right.
