Staten Island is in for a breezy and damp Wednesday as a cold front sweeps in from the west. The National Weather Service has warned of strong winds and rain moving into the area during the afternoon.
The rain is expected to start late in the afternoon and continue until midnight. Temperatures will climb into the 40s during the day but drop to around 30 degrees overnight. The rain won't be heavy, with less than a quarter of an inch expected.
Winds will be a big part of the story on Wednesday. Southwest winds will gust between 20 to 35 mph, with the strongest gusts near the coast. After the cold front passes late Wednesday night, winds will shift to the west, still gusting between 20 to 30 mph.
Thursday will be much colder, with highs only in the 30s. West-northwest winds will gust between 30 to 40 mph, with some gusts possibly reaching 45 mph. This will make it feel much colder, with wind chill values in the teens and 20s.
The cold weather will stick around on Friday, with highs still in the 30s and overnight lows dropping into the teens and 20s. Winds will start to calm down as high pressure moves into the region.
Looking ahead to the weekend, there's a chance of light snow or flurries on Saturday morning. However, recent forecasts suggest this snow may not amount to much. Another Arctic cold front is expected to move in Saturday night into Sunday morning, which could bring more light snow.
