Storm Alert for Alabama: Stay Ready Tonight

Alabama, USATue Apr 28 2026
Alabama faces a chance of strong storms tonight. The National Weather Service says most of the state could see severe weather from 5 p. m. Tuesday to 4 a. m. Wednesday. A Level 2 risk means scattered thunderstorms, hail, tornadoes, and high winds are possible. Only the coast and a small southeastern corner are not under this warning. Tonight’s storms may hit people while they sleep. It is smart to set up a weather alert on a radio or phone so you can wake up if danger comes. Make sure your phone isn’t on silent and keep a battery charger nearby. Earlier this week, storms moved into northern Alabama. A tornado watch was issued for a few northwestern counties but was cancelled before midnight.
The rain that started in the morning is still moving northward, while the south remains dry. Today’s outlook says showers could appear later in the day. The agency is watching how the morning activity changes the weather for the afternoon and evening. Wednesday could bring more storms, especially from 7 p. m. to midnight. Strong winds and hail will be the main threats then. Rain might help ease drought in some parts of Alabama. Northern counties could receive 2–3 inches by Thursday evening. South Alabama, which has struggled with dry weather, may see less rain but could get an inch or more over the weekend. Keep an eye on updates from April 27 to May 4 for how much rain will fall.
