A mother and her daughter lost their lives during a severe weather event in northern Oklahoma. The accident happened on Thursday night while they were traveling near Fairview, a small town about 100 miles northwest of Oklahoma City. Authorities located the crash on State Highway 60 and 243, roughly ten minutes west of Fairview. The region was battered by powerful storms that toppled power lines and trees. A dangerous tornado crossed the northern part of the state, moving toward Kansas. Local reports say the tornado touched down near Helena, causing extensive damage but no injuries so far.
A photographer nearby captured striking footage of a large funnel cloud west of Fairview that evening. Weather officials warned that the bad weather would linger into Friday and over the weekend, with potential for severe thunderstorms, flash flooding, hail up to two inches, winds reaching 75 mph, and additional tornadoes. Major cities such as Tulsa, Kansas City, St. Louis, Peoria, Des Moines, and Oklahoma City face heightened risk on Friday. The severe conditions are expected to spread from southeast Texas to Mississippi and the eastern Great Lakes by Saturday.
